Astute Unruly Me

My life in words

Tracking my habits

I have an idea of what I should be doing and then the reality of it all sets in. When I wrote the post about designing my life. I might have been a little excited.

  1. Workout: This is still a struggle. I did some yoga everyday for a few days then it fell off again. I rode my bike, the proof is the green ring.
  2. Meditation: I read about ( and listen to podcasts and audiobooks) the benefits daily. I listen to a relaxation/sleep meditation nightly. Need to kick it up a notch.
  3. Writing: I now do some sort of writing daily. Either for this blog, the work blog that I am helping with, or my journal.
  4. Eat better: More salads and water. Less take out and processed foods.
  5. Stop complaining.
  6. Spend less.

Taken by me--> ShanteThe next question is how do I keep track of all of this stuff. I have seen some people post daily workouts to social media and some use a large calendar to track their habits one at a time. My usual answer is buy something. Can’t (shouldn’t) do that. The goal for making these changes as painless as possible is using stuff I already have.

I like my tech, so I am going to lean on my devices. (I have Apple products and what ever you are using will work for you.) I realized that I can use the built in health apps on my watch and phone to track exercise, and meditation time. My digital scale is also a good marker if I am eating more salads than chips and it can give me a good idea of the water mass in my system. The only thing that I know that I am not going to track right now is food.

My digital and paper journals are a good way to track my complaining. I can look back to see if I went off the deep end writing more bad stuff than good. A gratitude journal/practice can help with the complaining and spending. Contentment can keep FOMO at bay.

Apps I am currently using to track this stuff: (Watch) Activity, (Watch) Workouts, Strava (occasionally), Healthmate (connected scale), 10% Happier, Everydollar, Notability, and Dayone.

What are you doing to be better? How do you keep track of the changes?
